The film is about each character’s Jazbaa: Aishwarya Rai Bachchan
Every week we have at least one big film trailer coming up and that’s the most important factor for any film, to make the right kind of buzz. But there was something rather special and curious about the Jazbaa trailer launch as it will see Aishwarya Rai Bachchan on the big screen after a gap of almost five years. Also present at the do were co-star Irrfan and director Sanjay Gupta. Here’s what happened at the do:
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan on Jazbaa
It was the story and the script which made me say yes to Sanjay the first time he narrated the script to me. The film is about each human being’s Jazbaa (emotion) and what drives each one of them. It was an amazing experience working with the entire team.
Aishwarya on dream team
To be very honest when I heard from Sanjay that Irrfan is also featuring in the film, I didn’t give it any second thought. Jazbaa has got a dream team.
Aishwarya on playing a lawyer
Sanjay was my reference point so whatever he asked me to do, I did. As an actor I always follow my director’s point of view. Though in real life I have never actually noticed any lawyer closely. Also we all have certain impressions of people or the jobs they do. We do have a certain impression of what a court room scenario is like as we have been watching it on screen for years but none of us had any first-hand experience. We tried to keep it as real as possible.
Sanjay Gupta on working going international
I don’t want to make any claims that the film will cross borders but there is an intention, definitely. Once the film is ready, we are dubbing it in Hindi and also in Arabic, so we will release the film in UAE. So yes we are planning to release the film internationally. With Irrfan and Aishwarya, who have a foreign fan base, it will definitely grab the audience’s attention.
Aishwarya on coming back after a long time
We have always heard senior people of our industry saying, ‘Once an artiste, always an artiste’. So I don’t believe a gap of certain years makes anyone forget how to act. It’s like how you never forget how to ride a cycle. So once you face the camera again, you are all charged up to be in action. Facing the camera gives me immense pleasure.
Irrfan on Amitabh Bachchan
Yes, there is a reference in the trailer to Bachchan sir. I believe he is everywhere today. It’s an amazing feeling because I have grown up watching his films and always wanted to meet him. Today here I am acting with him (Piku) and in my films there is a reference to him. I have always followed my heart.
Irrfan on versatile roles
Though I loved acting I always thought I can’t become one. But then there is a conviction in me which drives me to do things. I think I am here to redefine things as I hate anything conventional. I choose roles where I will challenge myself. It’s an instinct, it comes from within. Like the party song (AIB), I loved the idea. In Jazbaa you will see me doing things which I have not done earlier – I mean action.
Aishwarya on her love for films
I have always enjoyed the process of making a film. We are an industry and we are aware that the film which makes money always gives you satisfaction. When you get to know that the hard work you have done is being liked the audience, it is extremely satisfying.
Irrfan on working with Aishwarya
For me the film was an instant yes because I was working with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, just to know her and see her every day was enough for me. It was a pleasure working with her. And just to see how an actress is doing a perfect job and also managing her child at the same time is what I really respect.
