(2007) She’s Mrs. Bachchan
Now that we have word from the patriarch, it can be told that Aishwarya Rai won’t quit acting in films after her marriage, although she will change her address as she will stay with her in-laws and will change her name too — she will be called Aishwarya Bachchan.
In his first interview after the Abhiash wedding, Amitabh Bachchan told TOI, “Jaya (Bachchan) and I have insisted that Aishwarya must continue with her acting career. There is no problem or issue with us.” As Jaya virtually gave up acting after her marriage, there has been speculation on whether Ash too would do the same.
The Big B also revealed that the newly-wed couple won’t move out to a pad of their own. “They will live with us,” he said. “This decision came voluntarily from both Abhishek and Aishwarya.” Amitabh added that Ash “desires” to use the Bachchan surname. “She signed her first autograph in Tirupati as Aishwarya Bachchan,” he said.
In the interview, Amitabh Bachchan spoke at length about his emotional turmoil in dealing with his very sick mother, Teji Bachchan, and the gaiety of the Abhiash marraige. “It was not easy to conduct the marraige without worrying about my mother…you walk out of hospital and switch your mood to laughter and happiness.”
He also claimed that the intense media interest in the wedding was both intrusive and often an hindrance. He denied that the family has sold the visual rights of the wedding to a foreign magazine. “No such offer came, and even if it did, we would reject it.”
