(2005) Time magazine’s Most Influential People
There’s just no stopping Indian actress Aishwarya Rai. The 31-year-old “Queen of Bollywood”, who is busy taking Hollywood by storm, was among a roll-call of big names who attended a black tie dinner marking the publication of Time magazine’s Most Influential People list.
The green-eyed former Miss World, who featured in the 2004 rankings, was on hand to hear tributes being paid to the performers who made the grade this time around. Oscar winners Hilary Swank and Jamie Foxx were both feted at the glitzy event, along with British sailor Ellen MacArthur and British politician Gordon Brown.
Among the audience inside New York’s Frederik Rose Hall were designer John Galliano and singer Melissa Etheridge. Donald Trump’s new wife Melania Knauss was turning heads in an elegant gown in dusky pink silk.
Each year Time compiles a rundown of the people and personalities who have done the most to “shape our world” over the previous 12 months. While 2005’s top rankings were dominated by figures from the worlds of business and politics, such as George Bush and Bill Gates, there was also a strong showing from the sports, science and entertainment industries.
