Bachchan hospitality bowls Oprah Winfrey over
International talk show host Oprah Winfrey, who arrived in the city on Monday morning, had a choc-a-bloc day ahead. But in between all of it, Lady O took time off to drop by at the Bachchan residence in Juhu sometime in the late evening.
According to sources, Oprah spent close to an hour with the Bachchans before heading to the party hosted by philanthropist Parmeshwar Godrej in her honour.
“It was a small and a private family affair. Since Aishwarya (Rai Bachchan) and Abhishek, both have been guests on Oprah’s show, it was most expected that she would drop by to meet them and also meet Beti B.
Though not regularly, but both Aishwarya and Oprah had been in touch with each other, after having appeared on her show twice.
Aishwarya had invited her to India on bothoccasions. Oprah had promised both Abhi and Ash that she’d come to India and meet them for dinner, and she did. So there was no way, Oprah pointed out, that she would not have dropped by and this time there was even more of a reason to do so, as she was looking forward to wishing the couple for the baby personally,” said an insider.
“On meeting, the excitement was mutual. Overwhelmed with the warm welcome, she apparently even remarked that it almost feels like home. Apparently, she even bought the baby several gifts and has already extended an invitation to the family to her show back home,” the source added. Amitabh, on his part, took to the wheel himself to drive Oprah around, along with Ash and Abhi and even tweeted about it.
“The gracious Oprah Winfrey visits our home, to meet us and bless the baby.. warm hearted, endearing.. drive her to party in her honor And Oprah in sari.. looking lovely!!” wroteBachchan Sr on the micro-blogging site.
