Stars Speak On Aishwarya

Julia Roberts – “Aishwarya Rai is the most beautiful woman in the world”

Roger Ebert(film critic)- “Aishwarya Rai is not just the first, but also the second most beautiful woman in the world”

Rekha – “Among the models I admire, I find Aishwarya is the best. I disagree with the media that she is ‘plastic’. I find her very expressive.

Linda Evangelista(Supermodel) – “She’s stunningly beautiful.”

Prahlad Kakkar (Ad man )” I recall the initial days of Aishwarya Rai’s career when she came for an audition. Simply dressed in a kurta and jeans she stood amongst many girls without creating even a whimper. But once the camera rolled she let her hair loose and man… that woman was magic! So it is that special thing in you that counts.”

Shobha De – “I think Aishwarya Rai is quite a star.”

Shah Rukh Khan – “It’s sad that things didn’t work out with Ash in Chalte Chalte. But believe me, I bear no ill will towards her. I feel very proud of the fact that when you go to London, France, Germany, the only two Indian names people recognise are Aishwarya Rai and Amitabh Bachchan. Amitabh Bachchan has been there for so many years and he’s wonderful. But Aishwarya Rai is our contemporary, younger than many of us. She’s perhaps done less work than me and to still be the international face of Indian cinema is great.”

Shah Rukh Khan(on the Chalte Chalte controvery) – “See, people will keep saying that I don’t work with her because I’m Shah Rukh Khan and supposedly a big star and powerful enough to say no to her. Yes, I didn’t want to work with her for a year. And it wasn’t for any reason I can attribute to her. It’s just that I felt embarrassed after what happened. ”

Rekha – “I will fight for her like a tigress if need be. She looks unbelievable in the promos of Umrao Jaan. I don’t know how it will do commercially. But I’m hoping and praying that this film does for Aishwarya Rai what Umrao Jaan did for Rekha, and more. My heart goes out to Ash. She’s been around for so long and yet not been there. That’s how it was with me…until I did Umrao. It seemed improbable that a Tamilan girl talking Urdu would work. Similarly this South Indian girl should realize her potential in Umrao. She doesn’t need to go to Hollywood to prove herself. She’s our own. Why Bride & Prejudice? Who are these people from outside trying to tap Ash’s potential? She’s our treasure. It’s time we acknowledge her.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali - “Most of Ash is lost in her beautiful face. So directors keep focusing on that and her acting skills aren’t put to use. She is a director’s actress. I believe I have brought out the best in Ash. She is a wonderful friend, and we get along like a house on fire. We can chat for hours, or not say a word, and be comfortable.”

John Abraham – “Honestly when you think of beauty, you think of Aishwarya Rai.”

Bipasha Basu – “Besides, to be successful, one needs to be content in life. Today, if I want to be Aishwarya Rai, I cannot be her. The same stands true for Aishwarya [to be Bipasha],” says the actress. ”

Akshay Kumar – It’s been a beautiful experience(on working in Khakee.) There was an unfortunate accident during “Khakee”. Too much has been said and written about what I did to help her and Tusshar Kapoor after the mishap. So I don’t want to talk about it, except to say that I did only what was right.”

Salman Khan - she is a good girl. Respects her parents. I am a bad boy.”

Ismail Merchant - Aamir Khan has great potential, as does Shah Rukh Khan. As for Aishwarya Rai, they worshipped her in Cannes last year.

Rajkumar Santoshi – “I couldn’t have imagined anyone making a more convincing Mahalaxmi. It’s one of the most interesting women characters one has seen in recent times,” elaborates the director of Khakee.

Sushmita Sen – “I think there is definitely a very huge price to pay when you are as beautiful as Aishwarya Rai is. There is huge price to pay when your entire projection has always been that of perfection. So even if the poor girl does something, as sneeze in public, it’s news, and it’s bad news… So I really wish that media would give Aishwarya Rai a break because I think a girl goes through a lot of pressure all the time from everybody from the Madame Tussauds, to the world press, to English movies etc. It just like that the world is expected out of Aishwarya Rai. She is just a girl, she will take her time and I am sure she will come out of it.”

Sushmita Sen - ‘I am proud of Aishwarya. She has given every Indian a reason to be proud. ”

Pooja Batra – “The way Ash has come up and taken the entire world by storm is a good thing for all of us Indian girls.”

Beyonce – “”I’m a fan of a few Bollywood films. I have seen Devdas and Lagaan , both great films. I loved Devdas — the actress was amazing! I cried towards the end of the film,” she reveals.”

Sanjay Leela Bhansali – ““It’s the past now. A lot of incidents happen in life that ideally shouldn’t, so we’d rather not mull over it, over and over again. I can’t undo what happened, neither can Aishwarya, but we can look past it, and we’ve done that. I’m glad the misunderstanding happened, because we are closer to each other today. That does not mean that all my future films will have Ash but, yes, if there’s a story that needs her, I know she’ll be there.”

Dino Morea – “I wouldn’t mind being bodyguard to a lot of ladies, actually. But, yes, I find Jennifer Lopez very pretty and like her a lot. I’d like to be JLo’s bodyguard! Coming back home – it would be Aishwarya,”

Karan Johar – On Ash’s appearance on Koffee with Karan “Aishwarya was a tough cookie. She was unflappable. That’s what’s beautiful about her. The way she handled me was perfect.”

Viviek Oberoi – “Of course she has a beautiful face but she’s even more beautiful inside. in her soul. I also admire the dignity and strength with which she lives her life”

Atul Kasbekar(photographer) – “She’s stunning. You can put your light anywhere and shoot her, and she’ll look good. There are very few people who land on this planet genuinely believing they’ve come with a certain destiny. They are the chosen few. I’m willing to wager that Aishwarya genuinely believes that God has given her so much that she shouldn’t fritter it away., Again, I say this in the most positive way,.She may not say this aloud, but Aishwarya has, from day one, known where she’s headed and worked towards it.”

Zayed Khan - “For lack of better words, Aishwarya is truly fantastic. It doesn’t happen often to too many people, but I can say that I’m a firm believer in God. I made a wish to work with her, and He made it come true for me. I don’t know how someone can know Aishwarya and not like her. After knowing her, I realised what a wonderful person she actually is, and I’m glad I saw that side of her, or else it would have been a complete disappointment.”

Gurinda Chadha(director of Bride and Prejudice) – “”I think she’s going to be very particular about showing her body and about any kind of physical, intimate scenes. Because she’s a good Indian girl at heart.”

Martin Henderson(co star Bride and Prejudice) - “I have a soft spot for her. It’s not because of her beauty, though she is very beautiful. I like the side that isn’t seen. The real Ash is a sweet girl. She reminds me of an old fashioned movie star-So glamorous… I think I was lucky to get to know a side of Ash that alot of people never see,I mean the image of Ash is this huge movie star which she is in India is one thing, and I think that was compelling, but you know I was lucky to spend time with her and get to know the other side of her which is a really sweet, very sensitive, and really loveable person, she giggles a lot”

Sneha Ullal – “Aishwarya Rai is the complete Indian beauty and it’s a huge compliment when I am compared to her.

Abhishek Bachchan (on KNK shooting experience) – “A huge mob kept chasing us around Nariman Point. It was so frustrating because we could not get any work done, but it was also a good ego boost. But then I would look over to my right and see Ash and realise why they were all there.”

Rituparno Ghosh – “I was never interested in her as a person. But during the shooting of Chokher Bali I got to know her as an extremely emotional and intelligent person. She has the rare ability of surrendering to the director.”

Simi Garewal – “Ash is as beautiful inside as she is outside. It’s difficult for people to digest that. So they conveniently conclude the sweet exterior hides a devious inner life.”

Keira Knightley – “I’ve heard that Aishwarya Rai is the most beautiful woman in the world,”

Emraan Hashmi – “a conventional looker like Ash would be my idea of sinful beauty.”

Divya Dutta – “The minute Ash walks in, we are transported into another time zone”.

Priyanka Chorpa(on who is the face of India) - “Aishwarya Rai is. Look at her beauty and popularity! It crosses geo-political boundaries. I’ve a long way to go before I can be considered the face of India.”

Preity Zinta – “It’s great; nobody is making a hue and cry about going to Hollywood. Ash is doing films there, she’s beautiful and talented and I hope she makes a mark for herself. I hope she opens the doors for Indians on a global platform. I’m happy and excited for her and I wish her all the best. Entertainment is becoming global.”

Sanjay Leela Bhansali – “Aishwarya is one of the most intelligent persons I’ve met. Her grasping power is extraordinary. She is all there. Always. Thinking. Questioning. She does her homework in the car on her way to the set. She is very graceful too. Even if I asked her to run down the stairs, she would do it so rhythmically that I would be awe-struck. I didn’t have to work too much on her.”

Hrithik Roshan – “I’ve just started working with Ash. She’s looking stunning. It’s very nice working with someone who is so beautiful, talented, down-to-earth and easy to talk to. Let’s hope we can live up to the expectations.”

Sanjay Gadhvi(Director, Dhoom 2) – “Aishwarya is not only extremely beautiful and attractive but also very sexy, hot and immensely talented. And there’s nothing that’s come in the way of her progress – no audiences’ mental blocks, no over-expectations, no nothing. Ash’s oomph has added to the sexiness of Dhoom 2. The truth is that the camera just loves Ash.”

Hrithik Roshan – “I have to say that I had judged her wrong. I felt really foolish at that…Sometimes beauty just takes over so much of the other talents. She’s someone with a lot more mettle than just what shows on her face. I was quite shocked to see the kind of intelligence she lends to her characters. It was quite a task matching up to the world’s most beautiful face. In ‘Akbar Jodha’ I will make sure that I take my character very seriously, and turn the tables on her so that she will be inspired by me, just as I was by her in ‘Dhoom 2”.

Will Smith – “She has a powerful energy. She doesn’t have to say anything, she doesn’t have to do anything. Whatever she wants to make, I’m there.” … “I really wanted to work with her in Hitch but she was shooting for Bride and Prejudice at the time and she couldn’t do it,” he said.

Will Smith – ‘‘She’s the mould that God made the first woman from.’’

Stunt coordinator Steve Griffin - “Because of her dance history, she moves well and remembers choreography easily. We put a sword in her hand and she just flowed, the next thing was to tet her aggression up to make it look like she would kill somebody. I believe her to be a natural born action hero.”

Fight choreographer Dion Lam (Spider-man 2, The Matrix 1, 2 and 3) - “Aishwarya is faster than any other actress I’ve ever taught. Very smart and intelligent. If she does action films, she will become a true super-hero.”

Rajiv Menon – Director of Photography (Guru), Director (Kandukondain Kandukondain) - “On the whole I personally believe that you always have to light your heroine like a queen and this is not very difficult with an actor like Aishwarya Rai. What was important was to make her look touchable. So the skin would always look light and not overdiffused. A little bit of shine and a little bit of grease actually helped.”

Preity Zinta - “What is unfortunate when you are an actress is that everyone thinks they have access to you personal life. Take Ash as a case in point, why is everyone on this hate mail trip as far as she is concerned? I know one thing about her that she has conducted herself with such dignity, whatever her position in the numbers game. And people are out judging her in the newspapers and magazines and formulating and airing opinions without even knowing her or what she is going through. I was so disturbed yesterday when I read something on the internet that I actually posted something on the site and asked everybody to back off. I feel protective. Besides, today it is her, tomorrow it might be me.”

Urmila Matondkar – “Age is no bar … Aishwarya Rai who has crossed 30 is getting more films. In fact, film actresses become more popular after crossing the age of 30.”

Akshaye Khanna - “When someone asked me about the kind of woman I would like to marry, I simply said that she would be someone like Ash. She is talented and beautiful, anyone would like to marry a woman like her.”

Anil Kapoor – “After Madhuri, I liked Aishwarya and Kajol . They have some magic in them.”

Skah rukh khan: “now the tulip will never smell as sweet by any other name, you will have to know it by Aishwarya Rai”

Meghna Kothari(co star Bride and Prejudice) – “I remember the song we four sisters in the film had to sing. Ash and me were hugging and swinging around. For a moment, I lost my balance because I got lost looking into her eyes! Suddenly, I thought of Devdas and Ash on that jhula. She is so gorgeous; for a moment, I was taken aback.”

Preity Zinta – “Aishwarya.I get along very well with her. I was on the world tour with her three years ago from then we became very close friends. Despite the fact that she’s on top she is very down to earth. Success never goes to her head, her head is always on her shoulders. I have worked with other actresses and get along with Manisha, she is very nice and Mahima is like my elder sister she is sweet and I love her. Rani and I work well and, I’m friends with Gracy and Priyanka but we don’t go to each others houses or call each other. The only actress I visited at her home or called sometimes is Aish . This year when she returned from her world tour we were on the same flight we chatted and had a great time. When her leg broke, I visited her. I recently went to her brother’s wedding. Aishwarya is the only close friend I had.”

Madhuri Dixiet “She is so gorgeous. I have worked with her in Devdas, and she is extremely dedicated towards her work. She is a very good dancer and we met last year during the Filmfare Awards. In fact, she was generous enough to send medicines from her vanity van when she heard I was running temperature just before the show. She has always been a nice human being and if someone is nice at heart, it shows in your face. I wish her loads of happiness and good luck.”

Gulzar (Kajra Re lyricist) – “A lot of songs become successes. But only few become a rage. I now so many people who keep going back to ‘Kajra re’ because of Aishwarya’s dance. The song was a success more because of Aishwarya’s dance than my words.”

Mani Ratnam - “I was quite happy with what Ash did in Irruvar. I thought she was quite remarkable, given that it was her first film and in a language (Tamil) that she did not know. In Guru she was speaking Hindi, so it must have been much easier on her. She has done the role with a lot of dignity and poise. She remained very close to the character and has done it with ease. In a film that is based on Guru she stands tall and strong.”

Vidya Balan - “Aishwarya was a dream co-star… an absolute delight, and someone I look up to. To even suggest she had my role cut is so ridiculous. I was aware of the extent of my role from the start. I did Guru for the pleasure of working with Mani. There are moments in the film where Aishwarya needed to reach out to me emotionally. She did it so spontaneously she won me over.”

Vaibhavi Merchant(choreographer) – “I feel Ash and I are lucky for each other. We did ‘Aankhonki gustakhiyaan’, ‘Dil dola re’ and ‘Kajara re’ together, all of which have been big hits. In Umrao Jaan we’ve had a lot of fun working together, although I still feel Devdas was the toughest project I’ve ever undertaken, especially the diya sequence. Ash has been trained in Bharat Natyam, not Kathak, but most of the steps in Umrao Jaan came from Kathak. However, she picked up the steps quite well, she even did a 15-minute sequence at a stretch. Though she was sceptical at first about being able to do it, she managed well finally.”

Bipasha Basu – “In Bollywood, I like Kajol, Manisha Koirala and Tabu. Also Aishwarya Rai, who I feel, is a complete actress, just like old-time actresses.”

Abhishek Bachchan – “I was dreading this flight to Mauritius. We were going to shoot the title song Kuch Na Kaho. I said Oh God please dont let me sit next to her…..She was right next to me and I said this is it, I am finished. The woman sleeps like a Ms.World as well, I mean she sleeps perfectly (imitates her posture)…and she is out. I couldnt sleep the entire flight because I was petrified that she is going to wake up in the middle of the night for some water and I’m going to be like (imitates himself) {laughs}..She is never going to want to romance me after that in the song. The next time she sees me like in a romantic scene she is going to see this troll sleeping next to her!”

Abhishek Bachchan “There are so many things I love about Aishwarya. She’s very human and unaffected and down-to-earth , A simple little girl who is always smiling and that’s very endearing.”

Santosh Sivan – “it’s so easy to judge her until you meet her then you get the real picture.”

Vidya Balan – “Aishwarya Rai is the epitome of grace; I admire the way she conducts herself. She is by far the most dignified woman I’ve ever met in my life. She is humble to the core.

Vidya Balan – “Aishwarya Rai banged on my door, walked right in and said “Thought I should drop in and say Hi” I was blown away by her warmth. There was no need for her to have done that. She is Aishwarya Rai for god’s sake. But the beauty of her is that she is so level-headed and normal. I just love Ash.It is ridiculous to say that she is insecure about me.She has been here for too long and achieved too much. Come on yaar what is she going to be insecure about?”

Sabyasachi Mukherjee (designer) – If Aishwarya Rai walks down the ramp in a certain sari, you’d have one million web requests the next day for the very same sari. It’s juvenile not to accept that.

Mickey Contractor(make up artist) – My best work so far has been with Ash in bits of Taal and Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya, Rani in K3G, and Kajol in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and Bekhudi. I have wanted to do the Kajre Re look on Ash for a long time. She has done films without make-up, like Mani Ratnam’s films, but never in commercial cinema. That too, this was an item number.

Kangana Ranaut: “I just can’t stop looking at her. She’s gorgeous. I wonder how anyone can be so beautiful. I’m dying to see her in “Umrao Jaan”. What a fabulous birthday gift she has received from J.P. Dutta.”

Madhavan – “Though I don’t follow Bengali I saw Ritu’s Chokher Bali and flipped for Ash. If only he’d make me look half as good.”

Divya Dutta - “I always imagined her to be snooty. But one day when I was sitting quietly in a corner, she came up to me and inquired after my health. She is a caring person and shares a brilliant rapport with everyone,” says Divya.

Sir Ben Kingley - “It was a pleasure working with Aishwarya in The Last Legion, and her fans are in for a big surprise. She is an excellent and outstanding actor. She is a shining example of beauty from India and I’m sure we will be seeing her in more Hollywood movies real soon,”

Amitabh Bachchan - “Aishwarya is my son’s choice and our choice as well, and we are very happy with that. She’s a simple, traditional and a home-loving individual, warm and endearing. Her inner beauty is far greater than her much-renowned outer beauty. Abhishek’s choice shall be our choice and our happiness,” he says.

Amitabh Bachchan – “It really struck me at times that till a few months back, Aishwarya was an actress and now she has become a part of the family.”

Will Smith – “I would do anything that Aishwarya Rai will be part of. I love her so.”

Preity Zinta – “Out of Kareena, Rani and Aishwarya, Aishwarya’s my favourite, because I did a world tour with her and enjoyed working with her. Also, I’ve worked with her for years, and we have a good equation, whether my film’s a hit or flop, or whether hers becomes a hit or flop, nothing changes. Some people, when their film becomes a hit, they become too arrogant to speak and when their film flops, they’re full of love. Aish hasn’t changed from the day I met her.”

Karan Johar – “Abhishek is luckier. Ash is a rare combination of beauty and dignity. She’s not that lucky. He’s luckier to have her.”

Leena Yadav, director of Shabd – “Well, I think Ash has her brand of sensuality which is dignified and tasteful.”

Shreya Ghoshal – “I met Aishwarya several times during the film and she was just wonderful. Extremely polite and charming.

Vaibhavi Merchant – “After Madhuri Dixit, Ash is the only dancer who can carry off classical as well as folk dance with grace. She can express very well. Rarely can someone dance and express well. Some people are technically fantastic but don’t have expressions going for them. Ash is a balanced performer; one of the best dancers today.”

Minissha Lamba – “She’s the only woman who has handled every crisis in her life with utmost dignity and poise. Whether it was the highs or the lows, she’s always held her own and always been so dignified.”

Kiranjit Ahluwalia – “When I heard Aishwarya Rai is going to play my character I was very pleased. Of course I had seen her films, like Devdas. She’s so beautiful and such a good actress.”

Colin firth – “She is a beautiful and talented person. It was a great experience working with her,” Firth said excitedly.

Deepika Padukone - Critics believe, you’ll be the next Aishwarya Rai? “Super. She’s my icon, I would love to be like her.’’

Shiamak Davar - “I love Abhishek and Aishwarya, not because they are stars but for the kind of people they are. Whenever they come to my institute, they spend more time talking to the crew and the people around than with me. I like people who give respect to others around them, despite their status, that means a lot to me,”

Ben Kingsely - “It was a pleasure working with Aishwarya in The Last Legion, she’s a shining example of raw Indian beauty and more importantly she fits the role of Mumtaz well.”

Jagmohan Mundhra - “She was shooting in London for The Mistress of Spices, when she heard about the film. Then we met and within eight weeks we were shooting. She has done a fabulous job. In fact, everybody asked me why Ash? The problem is that most people do not see beyond her pretty face. That is a boon for her but at times, it is a curse. She is beautiful but the point is that after working for 11 years she is also quite talented.

She never questioned my vision and I felt that her eyes are so expressive — they can communicate fear, triumph, love, betrayal and every human emotion needed in this film. Ash also wanted to get out of this image. I told her that ten minutes into the film and the audience should forget they were watching Aishwarya. She was completely okay with that. As a director I did not want to make things superficial for her. I really hope Provoked does to Ash what Kamla and Bawandar did to Deepti Naval and Nandita Das respectively.”

Vidya balan - ‘’ she’s the epitome of grace. We hardly had scenes together in Guru. But on many occasions I felt she was my sister. I truly admire the way she conducts herself. Even her sneeze is written about. That can’t beeasy.’’

Claude Lelouch – ‘I think Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is magnificent!’

Abhishek Bachchan – “Being married to Aishwarya is like being married to your best friend. She’s someone I love spending time with and I think that is one of the most basic criteria one should consider before getting married to the one you love.”

Hrithik Roshan – “Aishwarya is one of the most selfless actors I’ve ever worked with. She gives her heart and soul to every film she works on and always aims at looking at the larger picture. She has always done what is best for the film as a whole, not just for her part or her character in the film. As I said, she is a totally selfless actor and it is an absolute treat working with her.”

Ashutosh Gowariker - “Aishwarya is the most professional actress I’ve worked with. She never brings any guests to the sets, or even her cell phone for that matter. To me, she is the quintessential princess… Straight out of Amar Chitra Katha… The distressed princess waiting in her chamber… Aishwarya has the elegance and the beauty. Calling her beautiful is an understatement.”

Sonu Sood - “One of the most striking things about Aishwarya is that she’s a thoroughbred professional and a dedicated actress. I have played Aishwarya’s brother in Jodhaa Akbar, It’s been great working with Aishwarya. If I had to recollect a specific scene that I will always cherish, it would have to be the swordfight. It was brilliant for many reasons. First, it was superbly directed by Ashutosh Gowariker and second, having Aishwarya as my opponent in the scene turned out to be fantastic. Whatever she does, she does with supreme grace and dignity.”

Sanjay Leela Bhansali – “Aishwarya will always be very special for me. On camera, my God, she generates so much power. Her eye colour changes according to the mood of the scene. There was no sense of oneupmanship between her and Madhuri during Devdas. No negative, looking-over-theshoulder kind of attitude. I’d love to work with Ash again. She’s as capable of bringing out the best in me as I am. We’re bonded beyond films. After the fire on the set of Black, she was one of the first people to call me. She put aside our differences and connected with me when I was in distress…”

Peeya Rai Choudhary - “She’s one of warmest, most supportive, most geniune people I’ve worked with. As an actress, she’s constantly learning and never content with her performance. As a person, she doesn’t believe in getting too close to someone within a very short span of time. Namrata, Meghna, Sonali and I lived with her for almost a month in London during the making of Bride And Prejudice and we had a blast. She is a very down-to-earth girl at heart.”

Mickey Contractor(make up artist) - “I’ve known Aishwarya since she took her baby steps in the world of fashion modelling. I’ve worked with her since her first Hindi film Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya to her most recent releases. I even dressed her for her marriage, so I’ve been an intergral part of her professional and personal life. She’s amazingly unfazed in the thickest of commotion. A calamity make strike yet Aishwarya will be the most calm person around. I admire her logical thinking in tough situations. She has no airs whatsoever. As an actress, her potential is still untapped, I think.”

Ram Gopal Varma – “In Sarkar Raj, Aishwarya plays a very strong part with negative shades. I’m completely changing her image, cutting her beauty down. And she’s shocked me with her performance. Without too many rehearsals and certainly without attending any pre-shoot workshop, she stood up to Amitjiand Abhishek in every scene. She will shock audiences. Nobody would expect a looker like her to portray such a dark character. I want to project her as the opposite of what Sanjay Bhansali did. Her beauty won’t be enhanced by filters and lighting. She’ll be totally without make-up. That’s when I think she looks her best.

Hrithik Roshan - “I can’t dispute that. It’s so true. Ash and I share a fabulous rapport. It’s always fun to work with a co-star who isn’t selfish. We both gave so much of ourselves to Jodhaa Akbar. Aishwarya has been one of my most helpful co-stars. I really cherish working with her. She is an incredible actor and an even better co-star. And since all three of us-Abhishek, Aishwarya and I-are friends; we’ve great fun even when not shooting.”

Jay Sean – ’’ And also of course there are some very beautiful Indian girls like Aishwarya Rai [of Bride & Prejudice]. She’s a stunning girl.’’

Manwa Naik(co star BnP) – “Ash was like an elder sister to us. She never made us feel out of place for being new in the industry. She welcomed us and took really good care of us on the sets and made us feel quite comfortable with her hospitality.”

Shyam Benegal – “Kareena and Ash are the actresses, who have proved it that along with captivating looks, they are also capable of terrific portrayals. They have, in fact, emerged as very strong performers today. I would really like to work with them.’’

Alisha Chinai(Singer) “I have sung only one song for Aishwarya. But look at the impact.”

Jagmohan Mundhra – ‘’She has extremely expressive eyes that speak from her soul. She is able to show her emotions without using words to spell out her feelings. I found her brilliant in her technical knowledge of the camera; her intuition and experience whilst giving shots is excellent. I remember when she first heard the story and the concept of the film she was immediately very keen to do the project and made special allowances by shortening her personal holiday to give me dates. Her complete trust in me added a burden on my shoulders which I appreciated and I am glad that I was able to live up to her expectations. I hope the world is able to see beyond her beauty.’’

Shweta Bhardwaja – “I am obsessed with her and was very sad to know that she got married,” said the 21-year-old, adding “If I would have been a boy, I would have definitely married her.”

Rituparno Ghosh -‘’I think I share a special bond with Aishwarya. We have done two films together and we connected very well. Soha, Koko (Konkona Sen Sharma) and Abhishek are like kids to me because I am so close to their parents. But Ash is different. She is practical, understanding, sensitive and very, very intelligent. Nowhere close to the fancy prima donna she is made out to be.’’

Deepika Padukone – ‘’From the female lead, only Aishwarya Rai at the moment is dominating in Bollywood having come from the modeling background. A few more like Dia Mirza, Celina Jaitley and Sushmita Sen too have made a mark. Will you be as lucky as they are?
Hopefully. Ash is someone I definitely look up to. She is someone I’ve really learnt a lot from and I used to watch her endorsements, her films and her modeling career right from the time she started off when I was very little and young. I also remember watching her when she won the Miss World. If my career goes the same way as Aishwarya’s, it’s going to be a huge compliment for me.’’

Hema Malini – ‘’ I don’t know how she is in her personal life. But I believe that unless you are good from inside, the beauty will not show on your face.”

Bipasha Basu - “No filmmakers of Hollywood are willing to sign any Bollywood actor without a screen test apart from Aishwarya. They seem to know no Hindi film actors, not even Amitabh Bachchan,”

Bipasha Basu - “I am intelligent enough to realise that women are always secondary in this male dominated industry. Look at the way Shah Rukh Khan, Salman and Aamir are still going strong. But we actresses can never even dream of such an inning. The only actress in Bollywood who has been able to beat this system is Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. You can call it her luck or just being at the right place at the right time, but the fact is that she has achieved this feat. In fact her fame goes beyond Bollywood as she is the only one who is recognised in Hollywood. This is something, which can’t be said for even SRK or Big B.”

Madhuri –‘’ It was wonderful. Even when we did the film together, we had bonded well. And I believe dance brings people closer. Aishwarya is a very sweet person . And doing Dola re with her did bring back some pleasant memories of the days when we shot for Devdas together. Dola re is a very beautiful song for which a lot of energy and movements are needed. Shiamak Davar has choreographed it all over again and it was a pleasure doing the number with the same energy that was required the first time around. There were a lot of dancers and several new movements. People loved it.’’

Deepika Pandukone –‘’ I admire the way Ash has handled her career. It’s not been easy for her as she’s always faced a lot of criticism and speculation, which is absolutely unfair. I know what she is going through and what she could be feeling. At the same time she’s always dealt with it boldly and kept smiling through it. If I am compared to her, it’s truly a compliment to me.’’

Madhuri – She adds, “I was also watching Aishwarya perform after long. I must say, Ash has matured so much as a dancer since we last danced together for Devdas. She’s getting better and better. ’’

JP Dutta - “I could think of no other actress in today’s time. I needed a beautiful woman with a tear in her eye and a smile on her face. Aishwarya was the only one who had all of that. And after watching her performance in my film, I believe that Ash was born to play the role. She is not Ash, but Umrao Jaan reborn. I think it is her best performance to date. You will remember my words when you see her in the film.”

Rituparno Ghosh – “So was the case with Aishwarya Rai. She hadn’t done serious roles until Choker Bali and Raincoat. But after that, she got recognition for her versatility and was offered more films from different genres.”

Brendan Fraser – ’’ I haven’t seen any Bollywood films, But I have heard about them. And I do know of Aishwarya Rai.’’

Ana Singh – “There’s going to be no Aishwarya Rai for 200 hundred years. She inspires me to go beyond myself.”

Rudradeep Chakraborty – ’’ Ash, as beautiful as the Taj, is a perfect choice for Humayun’s Tomb. It helps that she just played a Mughal queen, so there will be a brand familiarity. I hope she always visits the tomb in her Jodhaa costumes. And she must surely ask careless couples not to write their names on the wall. They will surely listen to her.’’

Kabir Bedi – “She is the best known of the Bollywood group. I’d say that Aishwarya has done a remarkable job of marketing herself very well there,”

Nicole Kidman – ’’ I’m a fan of Aishwarya Rai and her film Bride & Prejudice. I got to meet Aishwarya for the first time at the 2005 Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in the World dinner held in New York City. I think she’s beautiful! I cannot comment on the industry, but I like the emotions and the dance that the Indian movies involve.’’

Kareena Kapoor - “I love the way she carries herself and the roles she’s choosing after marriage. I’d like to follow that pattern when I get married.”

Katrina Kaif –‘’ I think Aishwarya is extremely talented. I like the way she conducts herself. I enjoy her movies and I think she is an icon of Indian cinema. I think Aishwarya is cool.’’

Deepika Padukone – ‘Undoubtedly, it’s Aishwarya Rai who has been invigorating my spirits. Well, she has been a model right before commencing her career as an actress and these attributes gets us closer’.

Kareena Kapoor – “Aishwarya Rai has become has become very particular after marriage with Abhishek Bachchan. She has a vivacious personality and ravishing smile. She manages her personal and professional life very well. She is also very particular about filmmakers and directors with whom she wants to work.”

Freida Pinto – ‘’The only Bollywood film person they know of there is Aishwarya Rai.. she is very famous.’’

Dev Patel – ‘’I have a crush on all Bollywood actresses, especially Aishwarya Rai and Deepika Padukone. I am too star struck.’’

Zeenat Aman - “Aishwarya is a global diva… she is gorgeous and very talented… enormously talented.”

Rituparno Ghosh – “For some sequences, I would consult her before retaining it in the script. She was extremely particular about her continuity details. She made notes in her copy of the script. Her hairdresser and make-up person helped her work out details before she faced the camera. Her major obstacle in becoming one with her character, Binodini was her stardom. But she overcame that to give a memorable performance.”

Rituparno Ghosh – “A lot of people are waiting for her [Aishwarya] to fail. In my opinion, Ash has not only given one of her finest performances but also one of the best in cinema. She will be remembered in Chokher Bali not only because she is Aishwarya Rai but also because she has become Tagore’s Binodini.”

Shamshad Begum – ‘’And I was really touched when a young girl like Aishwarya Rai came and met me.”

Salman Khan – ‘’Dragging somebody’s name with whom I have no connection, and who is happily married to a nice guy, is not just embarrassing, but disgusting. Relationships work and sometimes they don’t, that’s life.’’

Ana Singh - ‘’ You’re not just a star, but a constellation of stars for inspiration.’’

Hema Malini- “Whoever is on top is the dreamgirl. I feel it is Aishwarya Rai,”

Mallika Sherawat - ‘’ Ash makes waves all her own. She’s one of a kind!”

Jagmohan Mundra on Ash’s performance in Jodhaa Akbar - “She is fabulous in the film. She is the epitome of dignity, pride a nd feminine grace. After watching the film, I messaged her, conveying how much I liked her performance. I am a Marwari from Rajasthan and could completely see a Rajput princess in her.”

Ashutosh Gowariker – ‘’Aishwarya, for me, belongs to a fairytale. She is a quintessential princess and by far one of the finest actresses we have. She is extremely professional.’’

Shiamak Davar – ”I would love to have her as she is the best and we go back a long way. I have been her teacher and worked closely with her on TAAL and numerous stage shows. For me she is a true blend of total perfection, total beauty and a complete performer. It would have been ideal if her busy schedule would have permitted her to do this show. I would have been the happiest person”.

Priyanka Chopra – ‘’ God must have taken a vacation to make Aishwarya Rai. We mortals were made in a day.”

Javed Akhtar – “Aishwarya is beautiful, but she is not being cast because she is a classic beauty. It is more her personality that comes through. Nobody can really know someone like Aishwarya. There are layers to her personality apart from certain amount of vibrancy. I think Aishwarya is perfect for Amiran’s character.”

Rekhaa - “She was fabulous in Sanjay Bhansali’s Devdas. Everyone wondered how she would compare to Suchitra Sen’s performance as Paro in Bimal Roy’s Devdas. But, I’m sure comparisons with me will stop after Umrao Jaan is released. I think she will do ample justice to the role which I’m sure she has enjoyed doing. I’m really looking forward to seeing the film.”

J.P dutta – “Ash has surpassed the levels that I had set for her. My brief to her was that she should think of herself as Ameeran, the girl child with tears in her eyes and smile on her face and not as the glamorous Umrao Jaan.”

Vikram – “Yes, it was quite an experience. I’m a good fighter, but not quite the dancer. I’ve always felt that Madhuri Dixit was the best dancer ever. But then, I saw how Aishwarya held her own in Devdas. I thought it was fantastic. So, while shooting for Raavan, I just forgot my own steps and kept staring. Every hero from the south wants to work with her at some point in his career. I got my opportunity finally. It’s wonderful that I’m making my Hindi debut with her. It’s strange how every Miss World and Miss Universe enters movies. But who has had the lingering impact of Aishwarya? She has some kind of an enduring aura. Over the years, she has really evolved as an actor.”

Abhishek Bachchan – “she is just that beautiful. And it’s not just her physical beauty. When you get to know her as a person she is trillion times more beautiful than what she looks. She is always been someone who is very genuine. Even before we got married, she was very genuine and real.
We come with a lot of preconceived notions about her. But one is just astounded by the humility and how down to earth she is.

Kareena Kapoor – I would like to be myself. there is a deep respect for Aishwarya because her body of work is so great. She is the face of India abroad. So I definitely do respect her but as far as emulating her is concerned, i have my own way of looking at things and I know where I stand.

Salman Khan – “I am very happy she is married to Abhishek. He is a great guy from a good family. The best thing I can want for her is that she leads a happy life,”

Jacqueline Fernandez – “I aspire to be like Aishwarya Rai for her elegance and poise.

Saroj Khan – “Other than Madhuri, Aishwarya and Sridevi no one today has that appeal or magic of a dance diva.”

Ashutosh Gowariker - ” When i finished the draft of my epic romance, I sent Aishwarya a single line SMS politely asking, ‘Will you be my Jodhaa?’ Promptly came the reply, ‘YES!’ and that is how our association began. Today she is one of my closest friends. The character of Jodhaa demanded a fiery yet graceful personality, and Aishwarya achieved this balance beautifully. The scene before the intermission where she’s angry with Akbar for accusing her of deceit, is tremendous because she conveys vulnerability with angst, using her eyes to emote. This was one of the most memorable moments in the film.”

Abhishek Bachchan - ” The first time i met Aishwarya was in August 1997. I was on a recce for my father’s film ityudata, in Switzerland and she was shooting her first film, Aur Pyar Ho Gaya, with my dear friend Bobby Deol. I remember one evening Bobby invited me over to his hotel for dinner and Aishwarya and the rest of the unit were there. That was the first time i actually met her, although i had obviously seen her before, since she has Miss World and all that. I don’t remember the moment when i knew she was the one, actually which is weird, but it always just felt right. If you ask her, she will tell you the same thing- that the minute we came together, we both knew that this was something for keeps. So, there wasn’t just this ‘one’ defining moment, it always felt perfect!”

Katrina Kaif – “I do not think that I am a great beauty. I rate Aishwarya Rai as the most beautiful woman in India”

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. She is the most beautiful, stunning and enigmatic actress. She has a superb presence, both on and off celluloid. She possesses a tremendous aura.”

Julia Roberts – “now that I have done an international movie, I’d keep both the doors open, whether it is here or in the West. I’d rather work like Aishwarya Rai and be a global Indian like her.”

Rajnikanth – “There is no other beauty in our generation like Aishwarya Rai and she is a born artist.”

Matthew McConaughey – “Aishwarya is the most beautiful woman that I have ever seen,” “She has been doing good work over here in the US. Though, I haven’t watched any of her English movies, I have seen the rushes of Devdas, and she looks ethereal.”

Hugh Jackman - “I feel Aishwarya is the most beautiful woman and a great actress. But even my wife is the most beautiful woman,”

Daboo Ratnani – “Before I became a photographer, I felt it would be an achievement if I could shoot Aishwarya once. She’s every photographer’s dream. A stunning model, she has perfect features and looks equally good in a simple sari or an expensive gown. It’s about the attitude she wears. The light in this picture is coming through the grill. It’s not flat and that explains the composition’s dramatic effect. No matter how many photo shoots she does, she’s always enthusiastic about the next one. She will go to any extent to make a picture work, and is open to suggestions.”

Mickey Contractor – “Every actress I’ve worked with has something unique but the most versatile is Aishwarya Rai. She can carry any look I do on her with panache.”

Zeenat Aman – “Our days were the times of silver jubilees and golden jubilees. Nowadays films rake in money in a week’s run. So nothing is what it was really. Apart from the fact that you need to have loads of talent to survive, as in the earlier years. So, it is difficult for me to take a pick. Priyanka, Katrina, Kareena and the others, all of them are dazzling. But if you force me to pick one, I’ll go for Aishwarya. For that sustenance factor.”

Preity Zinta – “And yes, the way I was treated by Aishwarya. I can only say that it was special as no other heroine must have treated another heroine so well ever before! That of course was probably because she played host to us being the ‘bahu’. She would always come around asking if we needed anything during dinner which would usually happen in Mr Bachchan’s suite. She was really sweet and pampered me. Hats off to her for being such a big star in her own right and at the same time putting in such a great effort to fit into the family!”

Makrand Deshpande – My next films “My Friend Pinto” and “Guzaarish” with Sanjay Leela Bhansali have me in almost the same look,” he shares, adding, “I am excited about the latter because I’ve worked with my favourite lady in Bollywood, Aishwarya in the film.

Karan Johar on Ash’s performance in Guzaarish - “Both Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan have delivered sensitive and nuanced performances. Hrithik has an exceptionally complex character to portray and he did an absolutely outstanding job! And Aishwarya complemented him with strength and tremendous restraint.”

Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra on Ash’s performance in Guzaarish - “Sanjay Leela Bhansali has created the finest film ever. With a brush and paint in hand, he has created the most beautiful painting. It is his imagination and we have to accept that Guzaarish is an exceptional piece of art. Aishwarya is simply brilliant in the film. She stood out playing the most difficult part. Her ability to stand on her own, despite the fact that Hrithik’s character was more powerful, is commendable. Hrithik Roshan has proved once again that he is an actor par excellence. One he could have done this role. I want to say this with an exclamation – What an actor!”

Subhash Ghai on Ash’s performance in Guzaarish – “Aishwarya is Aishwarya, she has proved again that she can carry the soul of most complex character with ease, grace and beauty, glowing in the midst of darkness and tormented moments in Guzaarish. It is a performance at its peak. She deserves kudos. Hrithik Roshan is fab. It is very difficult for an actor to convey a two-hour story only through his eyes, but he did it with élan.”

Leena Yadav on Ash’s performance in Guzaarish - “I really like Aishwarya’s character in the film. Playing Sophia was not a child’s play. It was insistently grey and to play such a character with conviction must have been tough. Hats off to Aishwarya for portraying his multifaceted character with so much passion!”

Satish Kaushik on Ash’s performance in Guzaarish – “Aishwarya is unbeatable and looks beautiful on screen. And here was a tremendous performance that came straight from the heart. She moved on screen like a swan on lake. Guzaarish is sheer poetry and I just loved Aishwarya’s performance in it. It was brave and radical on Hrithik’s part to accept this role. Aishwarya and Hrithik’s Last scene was the most heartbreaking. Hats off to him for putting his heart, mind and soul into creating Ethan.”

Sanjay Leela Bhansali on Ash’s performance in Guzaarish – “Not only does Ash have a beautiful face but a beautiful mind too. Guzaarish is my third film with her. As for Hrithik, this film would not have been possible without him.”

Actor Matthew McConaughey – Aishwarya is the most beautiful woman that I have ever seen,” he says of the Bollywood star. “She has been doing good work over here in the US. Though, I haven’t watched any of her English movies, I have seen the rushes of Devdas, and she looks ethereal

Katrina Kaif - “I do not think that I am a great beauty. I rate Aishwarya Rai as the most beautiful woman in India”

Priyanka Chopra – “I know Indian actors, especially female actors, have a shelf life but clearly that is changing. Look at Aishwarya and Kajol—they’re married and they’re playing lead roles.”

Jaqueline Fernandez – “I aspire to be like Aishwarya Rai for her elegance and poise”

Karan Johar – “She is the most beautiful, stunning and enigmatic actress. She has a superb presence, both on and off celluloid. She possesses a tremendous aura.”

Hema Malini – “As I have said many times, Aishwarya Rai is a dream girl and a great actress. In fact, she is much more than a dream girl.”

Hrithik Roshan on his favourite co-star - “You know, it’s been a pleasure working with them all – they’re all equally special and talented artists in their own ways. I have to admit Aishwaraya Rai Bachchan is a favourite – a screen icon for all of the right reasons. Immensely talented and a beautiful human being. She and her husband, Abhishek, are dear friends of mine.”

Zayed Khan - “Ash was lovely to work with in Shabd. She is every bit a woman of substance.”

Sonal Chauhan - “I learnt something from Aishwarya Rai Bachchan on the day of the mahurat, Every day there are new things I am learning. So when Aishwarya came and started to chat with us, she spoke briefly about her films: Raavan and Jodhaa Akbar and was telling us that there were times when it was difficult to even shoot but in spite of that, they shot both the films in severe weather conditions sometimes. It was nice to see someone so committed and passionate about their work.”

Saif Ali Khan - “Aishwarya is the international face of India and is a very beautiful face. We should be proud to have her as the representative to our country. She’s been going there for the last 10 years, and that is wonderful.”

Preity Zinta - “Post 30, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan did Dhoom 2 and looked hotter than any other heroine. So what was that?”

Revathy Sankaran – (Played Rajnikant’s mother in Endhiran) “While shooting for Endhiran, I had a small chat with Aishwarya. She complimented me saying that I was very funny and when I said that I was not half as beautiful as her, she immediately said that she wouldn’t know how she would look at my age. She also showed me the mole on her elbow. It was very sweet of her to do that. This small gesture made me feel that she is beautiful on the inside.”

Sheena S Nayyer - “Aishwarya is the mega star of bollywood. I look up to her as a bollywood diva. Her whole journey is certainly a source of inspiration to our generation. Her career started off from winning the Ms. World title in 1994, to a leading B –town actress. Her success is admirable. My reference point for now had to be none other than the gorgeous reigning Diva of Bollywood Ms. Aishwarya Rai. For my character this definitely served as the best reference point.”

JP Dutta - “By trying to understand Aishwarya, I found the real her. I didn’t choose her for the part. Umrao Jaan chose her. Aishwarya has played the part of the courtesan with grace.”

Saroj Khan - “I miss that level of perfection in our leading ladies of Bollywood today. Barring a few exceptions like the Madhuri Dixit and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Sridevi no one today has that appeal or magic of a dance diva. I hope that the generations to come will see more promising performers and dancers in that sense.”

Mickey Contractor - “Frankly, if I don’t like someone whose makeup I am doing, I just don’t work with them. By the grace of God, I have the option today to work with whoever I want to. However, Aishwarya’s is one face I can do all the time. I think Aishwarya has the most beautiful face in Bollywood. I just find I can do a lot of things with her and she carries off everything. She also has implicit faith and trust in me.”

Ramkamal Mukherjee (Journalist Mumbai Mirror, Times of India) - “I am sure, that post pregnancy, Aishwarya will strike back and she will be loved the way she was loved by this industry! We need honest people.”

Kareena Kapoor - “I think Aishwarya. She’s an icon in her own right. I think we’ll have more to discuss than the others.”

Aseem Bajaj, (cinematographer) - “I worked with Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan in Shabd when she was still single and not married to Abhishek. One day, I got talking to her and I wondered aloud about her childhood. When she was a seven-year-old kid, she was just Aishwarya Rai and when she grew up and turned into ‘the’ Aishwarya Rai, how did it feel – did the seven-year-old child in her ever surface in her day-to-day dealings? To which she laughed and said, “I have never been asked such a question before, but it is an interesting one.” But I still didn’t get my answer. She is a complete professional when it comes to her work and it is impressive.”

JP Dutta – “Aishwarya Rai was the obvious choice for me and Javed Akhtar. When I first met her, the songs had been recorded. I played the song Main Naa Mil Sakun Tumse. Aishwarya was moved and wept profusely. I had found my Amiran. I can’t think of any other actress who can have a smile on her face and a tear in her eyes.”

Gautam Rajadhyaksha – “I have always wondered whether she is a Greek goddess in an Indian temple or an Indian goddess in a Greek temple. There is a wonderful mixture of both, but at heart she is pure Indian, which is something I really admire about her. I think her fame has been exploited by people. She is a very simple and sensitive girl.”

Candice Boucher (Playboy model) – “I don’t remember the names of the film right now, but as far as the actors are concerned, I am a big fan of Aishwarya Rai. She is gorgeous and a great actress too. Sanjay Leela Bhansali – “Aishwarya came to work with me on ‘Guzaarish’ after I did two films – ‘Black’ and ‘Saawariya’ without her. And I started off with her exactly from where I left it. She makes a good friend because at least I didn’t have to give explanations of why I didn’t cast her in ‘Black’, and in ‘Saawariya’.”

Rob Schneider (American actor, comedian, screenwriter, and director) – The only Bollywood film, Schneider has watched is Dhoom 2 (2006). Marvie Ann Beck (Make-up Artist) - “Aishwarya and I go back a long way. We started our careers at almost the same time. I knew her before she became Miss World (in 1994).

I helped her with colours when she was appearing for the Miss World pageant. Products were not easily available then so I would make my own colours for her make-up. I made two colours for her which she took with her. Initially, she found the colour a little dark for her skin tone, but when she came back from the pageant she called and told me she had used my colour which matched her skin tone because she had got a tan.

It’s very easy to work with someone who is a professional and knows what she wants. Aishwarya is one of them. She taught me a lot of things. Because of her guidance and perfectionism, I managed to work on her look in less than half an hour. She is very down-to- earth and co-operative.

She is one of the most photogenic and prettiest women I have worked with. Whatever she does, she gives it her best. She has the most beautiful eyes and even without any make-up her eyes look stunning.”

Meryl Streep – “Well, in Bollywood, Aishwarya Rai (Bachchan) is quite famous. She is elegant and gorgeous.”

Dharmesh Darshan – (on wanting to Cast Aishwarya in Raja Hindustani) “My eye then fell on the dream Pepsi model Aishwarya Rai who had played Sanju in the brilliantly directed (cola) commercial by Prahlad Kakkar. (The other girl in the ad was Ritu Chaudhary alias Mahima Chaudhary with whom I later went on to make Dhadkan, but that’s another story.) Aishwarya was all that I had dreamt of, a classic memsaab to taxi driver Raja. Dream girl, drop dead gorgeous, fresh, unattainable and above all, willing and professional. As she had appreciated my presentation of Juhi in Lootere, I can never forget the respect she gave me, just a second film director, in a phase where all the top filmmakers of the time were wooing her to make a debut with them. But destiny did not play along for reasons I do not wish to spell out as they shall be sheer sensation. The loss was mine and stays.”

Vidhu Vinod Chopra (on casting Aishwarya Rai Bachchan for the role of Lalita in ‘Parineta’) – “When we thought of ‘Parineeta’, I immediately thought of a face like Aishwarya Rai. The character of the girl is like two men fall in love with her…so the heroine has to be bigger. But Pradeep Sarkar (director) told me about her (Vidya) I was like let me see what she can do,”

Deepika Mehta (Yoga Teacher) – “Aishwarya was the most dedicated one. She treated me like a guru as she herself respects dance. She is a very humble human being who treated me like a teacher.”

Prachi Mishra ( Miss India Earth) – “Aishwarya Rai always inspired me a lot. I mean, she came from a normal family without any background, and made a mark globally. Whether it was beauty pageant or the field of acting, she is known for her accomplishments everywhere. I would like to do something like that in life.”

British model Scarlett Mellish Wilson – “I love her (Aishwarya Rai), she defines Bollywood for me. She is the definition of Bollywood. Her acting, her beauty, she is such an amazing dancer. I think she is the ultimate, I love her,”

Peter Bradshow (UK Film Critic) – “I have to put on record that she is easily the most beautiful and glamorous star I have ever seen in the flesh: far more hypnotic than people like, say, Nicole Kidman or George Clooney, whom I have also stood near at various premieres. I once found myself standing near Aishwarya at a dinner at the Cannes Film Festival, and she was like an impossibly gorgeous creature from another planet, with a benign aura. I found myself standing there in a slack-jawed daze. Like everyone else.”

Rannvijay Singh (Action Replayy co star) – dancing with Aishwarya in the film has been one of the best experiences that I will always cherish. It will be the most memorable.

Simi Garewal – “This was Aishwarya’s second rendezvous with me. Now, she had grown into a woman who had experienced international acclaim – and also some personal pain. In our rendezvous she spoke about both…and much more… Because Ash is so incredibly beautiful, I feel few people know or understand her as a person — they can’t go beyond her beauty! Believe me, she is one of the most affectionate and genuinely caring persons I know. I wrote some verses for her at the end of our rendezvous — it expressed my thoughts about her… Ash and Abhishek married soon after our rendezvous. And now there is beautiful little Aaradhya. I hope I’m still around for her first interview!”

Halle Berry – “From Bollywood, I got a chance to catch Oprah’s episode of Aishwarya Rai. I haven’t met her but I would love to. She looked pretty on the show in a sari,”

Jaya Bachchan – “(Big B)He could barely hold himself for the first four months but once the doctor said it was okay to make the announcement, he broke the news on Twitter. Aaradhya looked a lot like Abhishek when she was born. She has his features and body structure but now she’s more like her mother.”

Priyanka Chopra – “I want to be a persona like Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. I imbibe from people I work with and I want to be like them.”

Catherine Zeta Jones – “Michael(Douglas, Zeta Jones’ husband) recently met Aishwarya. I saw the pictures and she is just as he described her, beautiful,”

Kajal Aggarwal – “Aishwarya Rai Bachchan… not because she is beautiful, but because she is intelligent. She is smart and I like the way she prioritises her life and is looking after her daughter now. I like people who have their priorities in place.”

Farrah Khan – “Yes, the perception that someone is a mother and so she can’t work has changed. Motherhood is no longer a problem in Bollywood. I am sure if Aishwarya decides to come back now, she will be flooded with offers. Kajol is still flooded with offers.”

Mugdha Godse – “I like Chokher Bali because of its period look and I liked Chokher Bali because of Aishwarya Rai.”

Jacqueline Fernandez – Talking about “Kajra re”, she said: “I think it was choreographed beautifully, Aishwarya was looking stunning…I love that song and I remember hearing it when I came to India, so it kind of remained and I think it was amazing. It is my favourite,”

Daboo Ratnani – Aishwarya is easily one of the most photogenic actresses. You can click her at any hour and you know that you will get that perfect shot. Her eyes speak volumes and she is truly beautiful. But what really makes her special is the person she is. Besides being extremely professional, she is also very down-to-earth. Shooting her means that you have arrived as a photographer.

Anu Kaushik- Lots of respect n blessings for super mom Aishwarya..after working with you I m bigger fan of your now.. !

Mickey Contractor – I’ve worked with so many people over the years, its really difficult to pick but if I have to, I’d say Aishwarya. I’ve worked with her since her Garden saree ad campaign days to the most recent Kalyan jewelers campaign. My personal favorite look has been the one I created for Kajra Re – with beautiful kohl lined eyes and a stained lip

Bipasha Basu – I like Aishwarya. She is a complete actress, just like old-time actresses. She is the most beautiful.

Deepika Padukone – “I am in Bollywood because of Aishwarya Rai.”

Sanjay Leela Bhansali – “Yes, I do miss Madhuri, Aishwarya and Salman. I remember while shooting with Aish I would be sitting at a distance and she would realize the changes I was discussing with my assistant. She is a real brilliant actor. Madhuri and Aishwarya are my muse. I would keep gazing at them when they would dress up and walk down to the sets, my eyes would refuse to get off them.

Abhishek – Aishwarya always keeps talking to her and keeps teaching her all the poems and the other entire essential things. So, I just have to be with her and keep enjoying what she murmurs.” …,”Not only for Aaradhya but Aish always keeps doing things for me. Right now before coming for this interview, Aish kept asking me as to what food would I like to have?”

Abhishek – “Being married to one another is our greatest strength. Other people’s perceptions don’t matter.. I believe she is and to me she is the most beautiful thing on earth…She is one of the most down to earth…. normal people you will ever meet. She hasn’t married me because I am a film star or I am a Bachchan and I haven’t married her because she is the most beautiful woman on earth or one of the biggest stars on earth, so that never comes in the equation”

Alia Bhatt – “A superstar should not have an attitude. They should have the charisma and appeal to connect with the audience. I think Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has that in her. When she walks in, you can’t help but look at her.”

Poonam Pandey – “I have always been fascinated by the royal attire that queens and princesses always wore. And Aishwarya Rai Bachchan did a fabulous job in ‘Jodha Akbar’ as the queen. If ever I was offered a similar role in a period film or a historical biopic, I would grab it with both hands.”

Alia Bhatt – “I feel that I don’t have a natural sway for an Indian grace so I watched a lot of songs of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Madhuri Dixit just to get that grace on my face. The steps maybe simple but you have to express a lot from your face so that was something I really worked on…I saw all her Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and Devdas numbers and Krazy kiya re from Dhoom 2. Though it was a Bollywood number, Ash did it with so much grace.”

Simi Garawel – Maharani Gayatri Devi for classic elegance; Aishwarya Rai’s inner and outer beauty; Nita Ambani’s drive… and yes, wealth!

Deepika Pandukone – It’s a huge compliment to me but I don’t know how she would react to this. She’s someone I’ve grown up watching, and admired in every way including the films she has done, the way she has worked her way up, and the way she conducts herself. Globally, she’s the only Indian actress the international audience recognizes, and that’s a huge responsibility. If I’m being compared to her, its a great feeling for me.

Preity Zinta –
Aishwarya is a dear friend. But we don’t really speak much, apart from occasional BBM messages. Abhishek is a friend and so is Saif…It’s so wonderful that Ash (Aishwarya) is so much into her little girl (Aaradhya) and that she’s a hands-on mom. No one has been a bigger star than her till now. She’s enjoying it. I’m so happy for her. She looks lovely!

Hrithik Roshan – “With Aishwarya, the give-and-take we would achieve was incredible. The way she has built her craft is very similar to my craft. The tools she uses to make things are similar to what I use. At times, she will look at me and I would feel shit that she knows my secret and knows why I am doing this. That is going to make me look better as she does the same thing and I would feel like I was caught. Her focus matched my focus beautifully”

Deepika Padukone – “Of all the names you mentioned, I definitely look up to Aishwarya Rai Bachchan as a strong role model and the fact that she had always been my inspiration is not hidden. I have loved her from the childhood days, watching and admiring her advertisements, her Miss India triumph and everything else. If by God’s grace, my career shapes up even 1% of what Aish did with her work”

Sunny Leone – “I don’t think there is anybody in the world like her. I think she is a very very talented woman. I don’t like any comparisons with her. I think she is so great that I just hope that my dance and acting skills become at least half as good as hers.

Ranbir kapoor – “I knew Aishwarya since I was a child, as I was an assistant in my father’s film Aa Ab Laut Chalen. I was only 15 then and in Class X, but Aishwarya and me struck a friendship. We would chat about her and her life and she would treat me her age. She would treat me like a friend and not like a child and was good to me. Even now, she is exactly the way she was then. There is nothing that has changed about her. Apart from her beauty and her achievements that the world already knows, to me, she will always be the girl who hung out with me on my father’s set.”

Irrfan Khan – “This is the first time I’m working with Aishwarya (Bachchan) and I love it. She’s warm and caring,”

Anushka Sharma – “I can’t wait to work with her. I had met her at Karan’s party once. We had a good conversation. She told me a few incidents that have happened in her life and for the first time I felt that I wanted to know more about someone.

Anushka Sharma – I’ve grown up watching her films and her growth as an actor and as a person. I genuinely look up to her,”

Siddhanth Kapoor –
“She is an amazing actress, very helpful and co-operative. She doesn’t have an aura of being ‘The Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’. Success has not gone into her head. She is very down-to-earth. More than getting intimidated, I was amazed working with her.”

Irrfan Khan – ‘I’m having a lot of fun(working with her in Jazbaa). The best part is she doesn’t carry the baggage of her stardom, and that’s required for the role. She’s doing it intelligently and delicately. Sometimes even intelligent actors make mistakes. For instance, in a Mighty Heart, I feel Angelina Jolie was stronger and more heroic than the role required her to be.”

Preity Zinta –  “Among females it’s Aishwarya (Rai Bachchan). From Nimbooda (Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam) to Dhoom, there is no better Indian dancer than her. She is perfect like a doll – not a plastic one, but with life in it. She is equally amazing in Western dances.”

Sania Mirza –  “Marriage doesn’t change anything. Look at Aishwarya Rai! Isn’t she still beautiful? ”

Sidharth Kapoor – “Honor to be in d same frame with Aishwarya…When Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam released, I was in school and watched it so many times. It gave me so much happiness. When I see myself standing in front of her and she comes up to me and says, ‘Hello Chandan, I saw you in Kaminey and you were amazing,’ it’s such a joy. In fact there was a scene where I had to strangle her and when I told her that it was such an irony that I am with the world’s most beautiful woman and I need to strangle her, she started laughing.”

Irrfan Khan - “But having met her at this point in her life and career, I’ve discovered a down-to earth woman with traits that go beyond romance,”…But her potential as an actress is yet to be completely exploited, even in love stories.”

Irrfan Khan – “Aish is a discovery for me. Whatever I knew about her was through the media. She is much more than the perception created about her by the media. She is much more humane, down to earth, caring and eager to explore her side to an actor…It would be a delight for any director to cast her and give her some challenge, where she feels ‘let me do something new, let me do a character’. She is ready to do that. She is very eager to do that. That’s what I discovered about her. I had a great time working with her,”

Siddhanth Kapoor – It’s amazing, working in the same frame as Aishwarya and Irrfan Khan. They are two monsters from the Indian Film Industry and they’re known worldwide for their work. They are amazing, they’re talent and beauty all in one. They are such amazing actors. It was the first time I was star struck in my own film, I’ve never had that before. I know Ash from before, but you know just working with her was just amazing.”

Abhishek Bachchan – “Mani Ratnam’s Iruvar, was stunning. To do that kind of work in your first film is unbelievable. I loved Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam too. I’m being biased but I loved her in Guru. Actually of all the actors in the film, she was the best. There’s another film of ours that didn’t get much acknowledgment – Kuch Na Kaho. I like that one too. She was sensational in Jodha Akbar and Guzaarish as well.”

Manish Malhotra – “When it comes to limited edition, a new beginning & re invention, there’s no one more global than Aishwarya…Aishwarya is a true Indian Beauty, known across the world. Who can be a better showstopper than her.”

Ranbir Kapoor – “How many heroes of my generation are going to get the opportunity to work with Aishwarya? I’m really grateful for this chance, and I hope that I don’t take it for granted. I’ll really do a good job. I hope I make something remarkable with her. That’s the intention,”
“I was about 16, and fresh out of school. I was not intimidated by her because when Aishwarya was acting, she didn’t give that impression. When I was on the sets, she would talk to me like she would speak to my dad or Akshaye Khanna (her co-star in the film). Being the director-producer’s son, everybody else treated me like a kid. But she didn’t do that, and I used to really admire that quality in her,
“She’s amazingly talented and beautiful, but doesn’t throw that in your face. It has been a while since I’ve met her, and hung out with her, so I don’t know how much of that has changed. I’ll only know when I start working with her,”

Abhishek Bachchan – “I am a huge admirer of her work and I am so happy she’s coming back. We missed her on screen…. I mean I get to see her every day, thankfully (smiles), but to see her on screen is different. She’s worked very hard on the film and kudos to her for being both a mother and a working person… hats off. I always say that she gives me the opportunity to go out and do my work without worrying about Aaradhya. It must be so difficult, but she makes it look incredibly easy… so, well done!”

Preity Zinta – “Aishwarya is looking absolutely smashing in the teasers of Jazbaa. Who says female actors, after marriage, are no longer in demand? Ash’s getting the best of both the worlds. She’s a great mom and wife, and she’s doing the work that she wants to, on her own terms…I’ve been friends with Abhishek and Ash for many years. But I also have my own equation with Ash. It was said that I was great friends with Rani Mukerji at one time. But Rani and I shared only a professional equation. With Ash, I can say she’s a real friend.”

Irrfan Khan – “Aishwarya is a pure soul. She has explored herself a lot more as an actor over the past few years.”

Abhishek Bachchan - “On the drive home, it’s instant. My mom you will know as soon as the trial is over, it’s on her face. So if Ma gives you a hug at the end, it means she has liked it. If she tells me, ‘Let’s go home,’ you know she didn’t. Later on that night, dad will sit me down and talk to me. The nice thing is they don’t criticise, it’s very constructive. ..The more understanding of the lot there is Aishwarya that way. She lays it down much easier, but she is also very truthful in her reaction.”

Irrfan Khan - “She took a gap from work because of her baby. I won’t call it her comeback. That would be when you quit the industry and then return to it. In Aishwarya’s, case she was always around, so I don’t believe it’s a comeback. She is one of the warmest people I have met and she deserves all the love and appreciation she gets.”

Sanjay Gupta – I will miss the sight of Aishwarya Rai on my set. I won’t meet her everyday like I’m meeting her right now…People are in awe of her persona and so, no one goes beyond her superficial beauty. It’s the same problem that her father-in-law, Mr. Bachchan faces.

Irrfan Khan – “Aishwarya is a genuine, warm, kind-hearted and caring person who is beautiful”

Irrfan Khan – “When you are a part of a story as an actor, you react to the other person according to the demand of the character. She (Aishwarya) has a beauty and that is mesmerising. She has an individuality and you admire that. She is a talented actress and I had a great time working with her,” …”I admire how she (Aishwarya) was doing two jobs together. It was beautiful to see that. It was a wonderful experience to see a mother giving shots, being into her character and then taking care of the baby,”

Omung Kumar – “Miss World got its true meaning after Aishwarya became Miss World, India became proud when she got the title, and after 21 years we still are so proud of her. And now I get the chance to work with in my new film. I’m super thrilled,”

Karen Johar –  “Aishwarya is the most beautiful woman I know…but her virtues extend beyond the surface, 21 years later she is a global brand, a true Indian torch bearer of our fraternity elegance…grace and poise. Aishwariya stands tall and proud as a daughter, wife, mother and celluloid actor.”

Aditya Roy Kapoor – I keep joking that after sharing screen with Aishwarya Rai twice, I have to retire now. Because, there can’t be anything better…It will be tough to top that. When I was a boy,I used to dream of meeting Aishwarya someday. She is the most beautiful woman in the world.

Darshan Kumar – “I feel lucky, blessed to be working with Aishwarya. I am excited as well as nervous about working with her. She is a talented actress. It’s a big film and a great opportunity for me as an actor,”

Alisha Farrer (Actress) – “Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has so much grace and perfection. She inspired me so much to act in films

Sidharth Malhotra –  “Among the ladies I want to be in a frame with Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan and I would be happy as people will also see me,”

Richa Chadha – “Working with Aishwarya too is pretty amazing”

Jaya Bachchan –  I see that girls from here have so much culture and such a rich sense of tradition, because I see that women here have tradition. They also carry themselves so well. I’m both happy and proud my daughter-in-law (Aishwarya Rai Bachchan) is from Karnataka,”

Richa Chadda - “Aishwarya is a sweetheart. She is a lovely and kind person. I was nervous initially given her star status but she made me quite comfortable and we often shared a few tips on the sets,”

Richa Chadda - Aish is incredible and her role is pivotal as she plays Sarabit’s sister Dalbir. I am really looking forward to work with her,”

Randeep Hooda – ‘She’s very beautiful…she’s such a great actor and such a great co star to work with’

Kalyan Jewellers CEO – Aishwarya Rai has been an integral part of Kalyan Jewellers’s brand building efforts, our relationship with her is much beyond the brand association. We will be always thankful to her all her support and effort for the building Brand Kalyan. We wish her all the success.”

Richa Chadha – “Aishwarya is nurturing, supportive and kind. She is grounded in spite of her stature and experience.”

Richa Chadha – She’s really magical, she’s amazing, generous, very dignified, peaceful woman. She guided me a lot and was very protective about me. I’m almost sad that the film is over and I won’t get to see her enough…I was so happy playing this part because I always felt that people judge her wrong because she is so beautiful. They don’t see the talent and hardwork she puts in.

Richa Chadha - “I am in awe of her. She is so sharp. She has that meticulous South Indian brain. She knows all her lines at the back of her mind. We have to applaud the fact that Hindi is not her mother tongue, and here she is trying Punjabi. She is managing her house, her daughter, shooting for films and brands – and she does it all so well. Most of my scenes were with her and she was very protective of me, and guiding me like a mentor. She is a superstar and the world’s most beautiful woman. Her name itself is a big brand. Initially I was always like, ‘Should I talk to her or not’, but she is so welcoming and genuine. We hit it off really well right on the first day. No pretence, no problems at all.”

Richa Chadha- “Now everybody dabbles in it (parallel cinema) a lot more, but she was at the peak of her career when she did ‘Chokher Bali’ and ‘Raincoat’. I think credit needs to be given for that. She did go ‘de-glam’ as they put it for these roles and she did them so well. Yes, she did get some flak because she is so beautiful. It’s happened to Brad Pitt as well. For a long time, his looks came in the way of his talent.”

Richa Chadha- “Well, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is a mega star. She is amazing to work with, extremely sweet and dignified. She is absolutely secure about her place in the industry as well. She is very protective,
almost mentor-like. I have never seen her being rude or mean to anyone on the sets. One thing that I learnt from her is to conduct myself with dignity. She is somebody I look up to.”

Randeep Hooda – “After working with her, I realised that she is loving, motherly and a protective sister. I don’t know if people are aware of that side of her. Like Dalbir, she, too, is a strong woman.”

Deepika Pandukone - “She,(Aishwarya)is for me, is the torch bearer for putting India on the global map.”

Ranbir Kapoor – “If Aishwarya & I would have got more time to spend with each other , we would have become best friends . We have that connection”

Anushka Sharma –  “She was too good to me during an award function abroad. I was called for a party in Mr Amitabh Bachchan’s suite. I was 21 then and was scared. But she was so warm to me. She kept on asking me if I am okay or not. She didn’t need to do that but she did.”

Ranbir Kapoor-  “When you meet Aishwarya, her eyes glitter. She doesn’t have to try; she doesn’t have to do anything, yet, at the same time, she does a lot. The first time she walked onto the set, I asked Karan, ‘What should I do? Should I go and say hello to her?’ I didn’t know how to approach her.”

Karan Johar – “There was so much build-up about Ash coming on set. To me, it felt like she is the only star in the film. I am not undermining my love for Ranbir and Anushka (Sharma), but when Aishwarya walked in, I was like OMG… one star has finally come on the set.”

Ranbir Kapoor – “Which actor wouldn’t want to romance her? It was a historic moment in my career when Karan [Johar; the film’s director] told me that he would be casting her. I thought she would say no and wouldn’t act with me…“My hands were shivering, but Aishwarya made me feel very comfortable. She told me to stop acting like a child and act out the scene properly. That was when I grew more confident,”

Vidya Balan – “Aishwarya looked lovely in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil.  Does she look like the mother of a 5 year old?”

Amy Jackson – “If there’s one female actor I admire the most it would have to be Aishwarya Rai Bachchan”

Siddhartha Malhotra – ‘Who makes you blush?  Aishwarya Rai”

Siddharth Malhotra – “A married actress you wish were single?  Aishwarya Rai”

Varun Dhawan – “I think Aishwarya Rai’s pic is really stunning”  (talking about Dabboo Ratnani’s calender photo from 2017)
